Pulwama moves towards first comprehensive master plan | KNO

Stakeholders, public representatives, experts discuss vision for ‘modern, sustainable, people-centric district’

Pulwama, May 11 (KNO): In a major step towards planned urban development and long-term infrastructure growth, the district administration Pulwama convened a high-level meeting at the Circuit House to discuss the formulation of a comprehensive Master Plan for Pulwama town and Awantipora. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom, aimed to gather suggestions and feedback from public representatives, stakeholders, officials and citizens so that their recommendations could be incorporated into the draft master plan being prepared for the district. Among those present were MLA Pulwama Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, senior officers from the district administration, police officials, representatives from various sectors and a team of urban planning experts from Delhi. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the initiative is intended to ensure systematic urban expansion, improved public infrastructure, environmental sustainability and better civic amenities for the rapidly growing towns of Pulwama and Awantipora. The meeting focused on identifying local needs and future requirements so that the master plan reflects the aspirations of the people while addressing developmental challenges. Speaking to the media persons, the DC said the process of preparing the master plan for Pulwama and Awantipora is currently underway and that valuable suggestions received from stakeholders would be examined on the basis of feasibility and practical utility before being incorporated into the final draft. "The administration is committed to preparing a balanced and forward-looking development framework that would help regulate urban growth and improve the overall quality of life in the district," he said. MLA Parra described the initiative as the first major and comprehensive planning exercise of its kind for the district. He said the proposed master plan would play a key role in enhancing the beauty, infrastructure and future development of Pulwama. Parra expressed hope that work on the project would begin in the coming months and stressed that the plan must be implemented in its true spirit to achieve meaningful and long-lasting results. In a post shared on X, the MLA welcomed the initiative and said planned growth, sustainability, improved public spaces and long-term prosperity are essential for the future of Pulwama. He also appreciated the efforts of DC Pulwama and Chief Town Planner Kashmir, expressing hope that the master plan would remain people-centric with citizens at the core of every decision-making process. "Glad to see Pulwama moving towards its first master plan. Planned growth, sustainability, better public spaces, and long-term prosperity are the need of the hour. Appreciate the efforts of DC Pulwama @basharatias_dr and Chief Town Planner Kashmir. Hoping for a truly people-centric master plan with citizens at the heart of every decision."
